Germany – England 2001

A game between these two countrys is always a high risk fixture. This World Cup qualifier was played in Munich. More then 500 English hooligans have been banned from attending this match. They received letters from the Home Office ordering them to surrender their passports at their local police station. It was the largest police operation ever mounted for a single England international match abroad. Despite all the measures, it still was a weekend full of violence. 10.000 English supporters made the trip, 4000 of them without tickets. Both groups combed the city looking for rival fans, resulting in several violent clashes. The police made a total of 91 arrests this weekend.
